The school and the heirs 1719 - 1791



S ince 1700, Jean-Baptiste de La Salle established a management company with Claude Pépin, Pierre Delaval and Jean-Louis de La Salle, his brother. In fact, after his departure from Reims (1688) and even more after his death ( 1719 ), Jean-Louis de La Salle assumed the administrator role of the goods of the Christian Schools in Reims. Real Proxi of his brother retained in Paris, then in Rouen, Jean-Louis signed contracts in his own name and in the name of his three partners. He spared neither initiatives, nor strain to strengthen the establishment of the Reims Christian Schools .
A t Jean-Louis’ death (in September 26th 1724), Pierre de La Salle, his brother, regained control of the company. From 1725 to 1741, all the legal acts signed in favor of the Brothers and their schools, bore his name.

S everal houses and gardens were acquired all around the first house:
  • on September 11th 1720: purchase of a garden, “Rue Neuve”
  • on November 10th 1739: purchase of a house “Rue de Contrai”
  • on September 19th 1740: purchase of a house “Rue de Contrai”
  • on January 19th 1741: purchase of a garden “ Rue de Contrai”
  • on February 23rd 1741: purchase of a garden “Rue de Contrai”
  • on September 27th 1742: purchase of a house “Rue Neuve”
  • on October 6th 1742: purchase of a house “Rue de Contrai”
  • on January 29th 1746: purchase of a house “Rue du Barbâtre”
  • on March 15th 1746: purchase of a house “Rue de Contrai”
  • on July 23rd 1749: purchase of a house kicks of Contrai
  • on May 31st 1759: purchase of a house “Rue Neuve”













  • A t the time of the revolutionary hurricane, the Brothers possessed fifteen rented houses and five farms.
