The “Arts et Métiers” school period. 1900 - 1918

T he Reims limited Company of the “Arts et Métiers” Professional School was created on July 24th 1899. Count Alfred Werlé became the President.

I n October, 1899, the preparatory class for the “Arts et Métiers” entrance began to work. On July 2nd and 4th 1899, the first jury of examination admitted thirteen students to the “Arts et métiers” School.

1904 ! 1904! Fatal year! The French government, under Emile Combes, prepared secular laws. These laws forbade the Religious Orders to practice teaching. To prevent closing, on January 23rd 1904, the School was taken over by Lay people and the Religious become secular.

D uring the promulgation of the law of July 7th 1904, the School was not any more a religious School. So, it could stay open.
